Agency Elimination

Northbridge Advisory Services efficiently eradicated agency staff at an Assisted Living and Memory Care campus in 85 days, optimizing operations, saving costs, and prompting expansion to another asset.

A private equity client owner notified NAS that despite our successful efforts at census maximization for two assets on one campus (Assisted Living and Memory Care), the campus was not meeting its financial goals due to extremely high staffing costs due to the use of agency staff. We were asked to take on the task of eliminating agency usage as quickly as possible.

We assessed the situation in person and found that of the 52 FTE positions, 22 of them were being covered by agency staff at a rate three times higher than what they were paying for the position. Further, this had been going on for over a year.

NAS put a plan together to have the community 100% free of agency staff in 100 days. It required immediate and direct focus on all aspects of the recruitment and retention practices and heightened accountability for onsite and corporate leadership. NAS led task-driven communication with the onsite team three times a week as well as separate weekly meetings with the operator’s HR department, digital marketing team, and ownership to ensure communication was open and focused.

NAS reached its 100% agency elimination goal 15 days ahead of the targeted 100 days, saving the community thousands of dollars a week. The owners were so pleased they asked us to replicate this with another asset of theirs.
